Transition-Driven Aerodynamics

1966 - 1995

During the period from 1966 to 1995, applied aerodynamics focused on transition physics, subsonic lift optimization, aeroacoustic reformulations, and the early use of vortex-based simulations. Substantial design principles for high-lift airfoils and Reynolds-number effects were distilled into practical guidelines, later embedded in airfoil families used in commercial aviation. Concurrently, laminar-turbulent transition modeling and aeroacoustic theory matured, while adaptive vortex methods provided new means to analyze unsteady flows and pressure fluctuations on bluff bodies.
